Gorilla trekking from Entebbe

Gorilla Trekking from Entebbe

Gorilla Trekking from Entebbe is popular with expats and other persons living or working in Entebbe Including Ugandans returning from the diaspora. These type of persons don’t have much time dedicated for long Uganda Safaris but can at least secure three (03) days off work. The most recommended weekend safari experience would be the very popular 3 days gorilla trekking from Entebbe.

The 3 days Gorilla Safari from Entebbe visits Bwindi Forest National park which is approximately 500km/311mi from Entebbe a journey that lasts ± 9-hours by road. Travellers with a flexible budget could consider flying from Entebbe to Kihihi ( 40km to Bwindi forest) or Kisoro (35 km to Bwindi Forest) airstrip where you will be picked up by your tour operator.

If flying to Bwindi from Entebbe, where is the best place to land? Kihihi or Kisoro Airstrip?

If you into Bwindi via  Kihihi, Ishasha is only 20 minutes drive from the airstrip meaning you could consider going on a safari in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National park well-known for Tree-climbing lions before proceeding with the transfer to Bwindi Forest. This means flying to Kihihi, gives you a chance to see a lot more than just gorillas for yet a pocket-friendly price.

On the other hand, if you choose to fly from Entebbe to Kisoro, you could consider driving to Mgahinga National Park for an afternoon Golden Monkey trek. Mgahinga National park from Kisoro is approximately 20km a 45 minutes drive. Golden monkey trekking in Mgahinga usually lasts about 3 hours after which your local tour operator will transfer you to your lodge.

Flying into Kisoro gives you the chance to tick-off Both gorilla trekking and golden monkey tracking from your bucket-list.

Speak to your tour operator about the possibility of adding either Golden Monkey trekking or a game drive in Ishasha onto your 3 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari from Entebbe.

** The add-ons only work perfectly with flights that depart Entebbe in the morning.

What to expect from a 3 days Gorilla trekking from Entebbe Trip via road.

One thing, we can’t hide from you is the truth! The drive from Entebbe to Bwindi forest is long and can be tiring but also worthwhile for travellers seeking to see more of the countryside. As earlier mentioned, the drive takes about 9-10 hours with a break-off for lunch en route (allow 1-hr). You will get to your lodge at about 5:00 pm having set-off from Kampala as early as 7:00 am. You will then check-in at your lodge and dinner will be served anytime between 6 – 9 pm. We recommend ordering your dinner at check-in to allow ample preparation time. Also schedule it for latest 7 pm so that you can eat and straight away go to bed – allowing your body to recover well from the drive. This allows you to enjoy a fresh gorilla trekking morning the next day.

At the Gorilla brief, you will be guided through understanding the Gorilla trekking rules and thereafter you will enter the forest in the company of a UWA ranger guide. The trekking will take up most of your day with you returning in the afternoon. You can now enjoy a Nile special, club or any other beer of your choice. The next morning is a drive day back to Entebbe which will take another 9-10 hours with the trip ending on your arrival into Entebbe or any agreed place.
