Mubare Gorilla Group

Mubare Gorilla Group is located in Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Named after the rocky Mubare hills where the group was first sighted, Mubare is Bwindi’s oldest Gorilla group whose habituation process started in 1991 and lasted for 2 years after which it was officially opened for gorilla tourism in 1993.

Mubare Gorilla group was led by a Silverback called Ruhondeza who died in 2012 at the age of 50 years. Kanyonyi the son to Ruhondeza took then over leadership of the family till to date. Mubare is an interesting gorilla family, the and is the first priority for most travellers who book to trek gorillas in Bwindi.

The Gorilla permit fees to track the Mubare gorilla group cost USD600 per person and will increase to USD700 per person effective 01st/July/2020.
Although Gorilla Permits to track the Mubare family can be booked directly with Uganda Wildlife Authority – UWA, we recommend booking through any one of the listed local tour operators.

**Because gorilla permits do get soldout in the peak season months of June to September and December to February, we recommend booking your gorilla permits at least 06 months in advance.
